I understand that Precious portrays a 16-year-old girl from Harlem who has been repeatedly raped by her father and mentally abused by her mother; all while battling illiteracy. And I sympathize with the downtrodden youth of America who can assimilate with Precious. However, why is Precious so fucking fat? You can’t read….therefore you are morbidly obese. Am I am missing the bridge in between the two? You are really poor….therefore you are morbidly obese. Wouldn’t poverty make you thinner? When I ran out of money at college I would go on a Ramen noodles diet that would turn George Foreman into a welterweight. Yet Precious finds a crafty ways to take down the 3000 calories required to maintain a weight of 300lbs. Maybe Precious should take some of that ingenuity and redirect it toward scholastics. Or maybe she should just eat less.

wow thats ignorant. obviously you’re not intending to be smart on this site, but thats just embarrassingly bad. granted, you probably didn’t learn much about the real world growing up in the same town that the real housewives of New Jersey came from…..

The reason Precious is monstrous could probably be traced to her deep emotional problems. Eating had most likely become a matter of conscious and desperate choice meal after meal. However much a matter of consequence, it was still a choice. She chooses everyday to eat that extra chicken nugget, just like you ‘Anonymous’. So as far as ignorance, ignorance would be the viewer who doesn’t question Precious’ weight. Her jarring obesity overwhelms the screen and it is hardly mentioned, let alone justified in the plot line. It’s like if “Shutter Island” starred an actor without arms. The viewer would want an explanation for his lack of appendages. NJ housewives?…I’m more of a Jersey Shore guy.
I completely agree with the fist poster. Most of the content on this site is pretty funny, but this entry is just ignorant. You have to be living under a rock to not realize that obesity in poor communities is much more prevalent than elsewhere. People with limited resources cannot afford healthy, balanced diets. Also, they are less likely to be educated on nutrition. There is so much reading material on this topic if you care to inform yourself, I’ve simply attatched the first link of 1,460,000 that came up on google. This entry makes you look really ignorant.

They never taught me in school that rubbing oil on my face would cause acne, but it was something that I picked up from experience. I would be pretty ignorant if I ate french fries and then used my face as a napkin. And I don’t live in the hood, or under a rock for that matter. In fact I see fat shits (350 lbs+) in the suburbs everyday; and they all share one trait…lack of will power and self-control, just like Precious.
I thought she was fat because she was preggo with a couple of her dad’s bastard kids?
